About
Meyasu (目安) is Japanese for "a rough guide": a number good enough to plan with. This site gives travelers to Japan quick, neutral answers to small questions that are easy to get wrong: which transit IC card to get, how much to put on it, and how much mobile data you need.
How we check facts
IC card rules in Japan changed several times in 2025 and 2026, and many older articles are now wrong. Every rule on this site comes from an official page (JR East, the PASMO Association, Tokyo Metro, Apple, and so on). Each page shows the date we last checked. We check again at least once a month and when an operator announces a change.
We are not a rail operator, and we do not sell cards or SIMs.
